Dangerous drinking

Small amounts of alcohol do not harm most people, but many young people drink in unsafe ways, or do things which could be dangerous while alcohol is affecting their judgement and skills.

Many young people drink to get drunk (binge drinking) at least once a month, and some do this much more often.

Binge drinking can cause alcohol poisoning, which can cause death.

Young people, especially young women, are at high risk of abuse, including rape, when they are drunk.

Young people who are drunk can do very dangerous things, such as driving, swimming (most people over the age of 12 who drown are drunk), and getting involved in fights.

Over 3,300 14-17 year olds were hospitalised for alcohol related injury and disease in 1999/2000 in Australia.

During the ten years from 1993 to 2002, an estimated 501 under-aged drinkers died from injury or disease related to risky/high risk alcohol drinking in Australia.

WHAT DO DRUGS DO TO PEOPLE?  


Drugs that are abused are attractive because they can change how a person is feeling.

As the answer to the last questioned explained - that's why many people take them, whether they realise this or not. Drugs are usually taken to provide some feelings that are otherwise missing from the users life.

Different drugs act in different ways on people. Some drugs reduce anxiety, some provide (apparent) energy, some give self-confidence, some blot out all worries completely - for a while.

The bottom line is that DRUGS CAN SEEM TO PROVIDE GOOD FEELINGS(that's why people take them) - but they WON'T change any of the reasons why an individual was feeling bad, sad, lonely, scared, insecure etc. in the first place!

It's impossible for us to describe here exactly what a drug or alcohol abuser gets out of using his or her particular drug - it will be different for every person. For those who have never abused alcohol or drugs, it may be difficult to imagine why some people do so.

If you've never abused illicit drugs, you may nevertheless have tried alcohol at some time. Can you remember how a couple of glasses of sherry, or two or three pints of beer/lager made you feel?

Well, basically that's the sort of good feelings that drugs other than alcohol can provide. They offer an artificial means of feeling good. Some are more powerful than others and they all work in different ways.

So this is what a drug abuser is often looking for. Something to make him or her feel good about him/herself; to relieve anxiety or insecurity, to provide self-confidence.

Doing simple exercises every day can increase your health level and improve your immune system. Physical training strengthens your organism and allows effective fighting with illnesses. So if you are active, breathe fresh air and don't stay too much time indoors you will not have problems with your health.

- good and healthy sleep:

Sleep is one of the main factors that influences our health. Every person needs to sleep about 8 hours to stay active during weekdays. Bad sleep can decrease your mental and physical abilities, and become a reason for illnesses and stress.

- positive thinking:

A lot of people do not consider their emotions as a health factor. Being an optimist allows you to live more happily and easily cope with difficulties and problems. Positive emotions, smiling and laughing prolong your life and let you avoid stress.

At the end I'd like to conclude that without health our life is miserable. People should be more careful of their health and organisms. If you have great health you will easily achieve everything you want.

Besides according to statistics most of crimes are committed by people under the influence of drugs and alcohol. In addition it is recommended to watch TV less, avoid anxiety and observe daily routine. Certainly it's hard to follow all these recommendations, but every person have to choose between healthy life style and numerous illnesses.
