My working day

Usually I get up at 7 o’clock on week-days. I do my bed and open the window. Sometimes I do my morning exercises, but not always. Then I go to the bathroom where I wash myself and clean my teeth. Sometimes I take a shower. After that I go back to my bedroom, dress myself and brush my hair. In five minutes I am ready for breakfast. I usually have a cup of tea or coffee and a sandwich. After breakfast I take my bag, put on my coat and go to the Institute.

I live not far from my Institute and it takes me only ten minutes to walk there. I am never late for the first lesson because I come to the Institute a few minutes before the bell. I leave my coat in the cloakroom and go to the classroom. Our lessons begin at 8.30 (at half past eight). Every day we have 3 or 4 periods of two lessons in different subjects – special and humanitarian. The latter include history, philosophy, political science and so on. Two times a week we have English classes. At our lessons we read, write, retell texts, translate sentences and learn Grammar rules.

The lessons are over at about 2 p.m. and I go home. Sometimes after the lessons I go to the library to take some necessary books. I usually do my hometask at home. As a rule, I have no free time on my week-days as I am very busy with my studies.

Sometimes I have dinner at my Institute canteen. For dinner I usually have soup for the first course, meat or fish with some salad for the second. I drink milk or a cup of tea.

Twice a week I go to the swimming pool. Besides I play volleyball in the Institute team and we have our training at our big gymnasium.

In the evening all the members of our family get together. We have supper, watch TV or read books. Reading is my hobby. I like to read detective stories and books of modern writers. At about eleven o’clock I go to bed.

My week days

Well, the first thing that I do as soon as I wake up is to go and have а shower. I start with а warm shower and then, just before I get out of the shower, I turn the water onto cold and for а few seconds I have а really cold shower and let the water run over me. It really wakes you up, you know. After that I usually go into my bedroom, open the bedroom window and breathe in some fresh air and sit on the floor and do а few exercises. I think it’s really important that you do а few exercises first thing in the morning: it makes your body feel good and keeps the muscles firm. I usually exercise my stomach muscles and my leg muscles. I also exercise my face muscles with my fingers for а few minutes and that keeps the skin of my face very firm, which is, I think, important for а model. Well, now, after I’ve brushed my hair, done my exercises and had my shower, I go and have my breakfast. Now I really believe that it’s important to have а really good breakfast. I don’t think you should just have а cup of coffee, like some of the girls do. Well, anyway, I have orange juice every morning and often I have an egg and a toast. I also like yoghurt and grapefruit. By 10 o’clock I am ready to get dressed and go to work. I usually take а taxi to work. I usually arrive at about 11. I don’t usually eat anything for lunch, but sometimes I have а sandwich and а glass of milk. Then I work for about four hours with the photographer and he takes pictures, а lot of pictures. Usually they are the sort of pictures that are used in the weekly magazines, women’s weekly magazines. I finish work at about 5, so as you can see I’ve got quite good hours: I only work from about eleven to five and then it’s time to go home. When I get home I make some telephone calls, watch the news on telly, have а bath and change my clothes. Every night I usually go out. I like dancing. I go dancing quite often. I can’t cook very well, so I like to eat out as often as I can afford it. I’d say I have а good life really, and I am well paid when you think about the number of hours I work.

My day off

The last two days of the week are Saturday and Sunday. They are called the weekend. But students and pupils have only one day off. It is Sunday.

Weekend is my favourite time of the week because I don’t go to the Institute. I think Sunday is the best day of the week. On this day I wake up later than usual. And sometimes I dup till nine or ten o’clock. As soon as I get up I air the room, do my bed and sometimes do morning exercises. Then I have breakfast and help my mother to clear away the dishes and wash them.

After breakfast I get ready with my homework and then I am free. I meet my friends and we discuss our plans together. We like to walk in the park or go to the cinema or disco. Sometimes we go to the library to make our reports.

On Sundays I usually do the shopping. My mother tells me what to buy, I take a shopping bag and go shopping. As a rule I go to the shop near my house. There are many departments in this shop and I can buy different goods there.

In the evening our family gets together. We have supper, watch TV or read books. Reading is my hobby. I like to read detective stories and books of modern writers. At about eleven o’clock I go to bed as I have to get up early on Monday.

My free time

I wouldn’t say I have much free time on week-days when I study. But I’m more or less free on Sundays and on holidays, both short and long ones.

What I do on my days off really depends on what the weather is like. If the weather is cold and wet, it is not а big problem because there are plenty of things you can do indoors. You can read books, listen to music, watch TV. Watching TV is а very popular leisure activity. You may also go to different entertainment centres such as disco club, art centres including exhibitions, cinema, theatre, concert halls, etc. You can meet your friends at your place and have а nice time together. It’s really very important to stay with friends because communication helps to form your views and makes life more interesting and exciting.

If you don’t feel like staying in you can go to the park. You can find different things going on there, from sport competitions to musical entertainments of various kinds. You may simply relax on the grass, listening to а band perhaps. If you are tired and want to get away from noisy streets you can go to the countryside and enjoy fresh air and а change of scenery. Many people like to spend time in the forest, walking, gathering berries or picking up mushrooms.

During their summer holidays people have а greater variety of things to do. You can travel all over the country by car, plane, train, sea or on foot. In my opinion, the best and the most interesting way of travelling is by car. It’s very convenient: you needn’t reserve your tickets and carry heavy suitcases. You can enjoy the passing scenery through the window. You can stop wherever you wish and spend at any place as much time as you like.

Every year my family and I go to the Black Sea by car. There are many rest-homes, sanatoriums and tourist camps there. But we usually rent а room or а furnished house for а couple of weeks. Sometimes we place ourselves in а tent on the sea shore enjoying fresh air and the sun all day long. As а rule I make new friends there. We swim, sunbathe, play different games. In the evening I like to sit on the beach watching the sea and enjoying the sunset. Sometimes I go to the disco, sit in а bar drinking juice, coke or soda-water.

People may also have their special interests and hobbies to occupy themselves in their free time: writing, painting, computer programming, gardening, mountaineering, walking, working with wood or paper, learning languages, collecting something and what not. Each person chooses his own way of spending free time, either passive or active. In any case leisure should be а refreshment and а source of inspiration.
