Omsk is my native city. I was born here at the end of the last century and have lived all my life in it. As it is known, Omsk was founded in 1716 by Buhkgolts and his people. They found a good place on the bank of the Irtysh and built a fortress1 there.

The town developed quickly due to its favorable2 geographical position. At first Tatar tribes3 attacked the fortress but the settlement4 grew up and became stronger.

Now it is one of the largest cities in Siberia. Omsk is an important industrial center. Its plants and factories produce different goods. Omsk is also a cultural and educational center. There are a lot of museums, theaters and exhibitions in it. Omsk is a city of students: there are some universities, higher schools and colleges here. Nowadays the population of our city is over one million people.

Omsk is famous for its historical buildings in the center, monuments and beautiful parks.

My favourite place in the city is the Victory Park with its great monument to the Soldier. I like to visit the park in spring when there are a lot of flowers there in commemorate5 of the Victory against the fascist Germany.

Many block-of-flats are built in my city every year. According to the General Plan of Reconstruction a Metro will be built in the near future.

2. favorable - благоприятный

3. tribes - племена

4. settlement - поселение
