1. To give new information or to announce a recent happening:

I’ve lost my key. Can you help me look for it?

2. We use the tense with adverbs ever (когда-либо), never (никогда), often (часто), already (уже), yet (еще), just (только что), lately (за последнее время, недавно):

He’s just come back from London.

Have you ever had lunch in this café?

3. We use the tense after a superlative:

What a boring film! It’s the most boring film I’ve ever seen.

4. To say that you have never done something or that you haven’t done somethingduring a period of time which continues up to the present:

I have never smoked.

I haven’t smoked for three years.

Jane hasn’t written to me for nearly a month.
