This first lesson guides the student through the creation and initialization of a benchmark company. The student is guided through this set-up by the aid of a wizard.

Objectives

At the end of this lesson, the participants should be able to:

Enable the benchmark feature keys

Use the wizard to create a new benchmark company

Create base data

Create a company

Before advancing in this lesson, it is necessary to ensure that the benchmark feature keys are enabled. The Feature Key Setup form can be accessed through the main menu, Admin, Feature key. Figure 1: Benchmark feature keys below show the correct settings for the enabling of the feature keys. The  “Concurrency test” feature key needs to be enabled in order to fully utilize the use of the Benchmark tool. The feature key “BMInternalUse” should only be enabled by Navision development.

The wizard

A wizard is available to help with the creation of a benchmark company. The wizard can be found in the Benchmark tab in the main menu. Select Setup, Company Accounts, Create Company accounts. The wizard creates the basics for a Benchmark company. The first time the wizard is used, the user should simply go straight through without changing any of the information. The company Id proposed by the wizard can be overwritten.

However, the name of the company is always “Axapta Benchmark Company”. The reasoning behind this is to ensure that a benchmark test cannot start on a normal company. Apart from the company Id, the wizard allows a number of customizations. These customizations can be made at a later stage. Once the wizard has been completed, and a new company has been created, the data creation setup Form will appear. See Figure 2: Data creation setup.
